Central London Outing
Week 3 Day 1

During our outing at Central London we had to go in groups exploring various places for inspiration. This included designer stores such as Dior, Chanel, Gucci and so on, and various markets. In my opinion I felt that this outing was very helpful as we were able to gain knowledge of the popular kind of fashion right now and the clothing that people want to be wearing. We also analysis ed the kind of fabrics which designers use and the kind of structure. we also observed the common kind of colors within the stores, really focusing upon the 'now' trend and what people are looking for. Through our observation of this outing it gave me an insight of popular brands and everyday high fashion. I had also collected look books along with pictures to add to my further research.

Week 2 day 4

Today we produced life drawings and it was quite in enjoyable. I wouldn't quite say that I had chance the do life drawing before as in the past I was only able to draw from models who were fully clothed. Therefore this was a great experience for me as I was able to draw from life observation of a naked body. This was very useful as it really helped me when it can towards have to draw body figures for my fashion designs and also was a great section of work to add towards my portfolio. Nonetheless I felt a little more privileged then other members in my class as the model that we were drawing was in fact a male and as my final project is based sourly upon menswear this was a bonus for me as I could really focus upon the structure and not have to improvise later.

Within the life drawing we learned a lot of techniques in regards to sketching the model and used a variety of different materials. This involved line drawing, drawing while standing up, blind drawing, movement drawing (drawing the model while he is in movement around the room) which in my opinion was

one of the hardest forms of drawing the model and so on. The materials that were used were charcoal, felt pen, pencil, ink pens, colored pens etc.
Week 2

During our flat drawing workshop with Sarah in my opinion it was enjoyable and very helpful as it gave us the opportunity to work upon designs that did not involve having a body added to it. Although we had to work under a time limit and my flat drawings were rushed I still felt that it was a way for us to not think too much into our designs and to just kind of ease up and think of the first thing that came into our heads whether we liked our drawings or not I still found it useful as it taught that when you first begin starting project all it is really going to be for the time being is just quick thoughts which would soon develop into more.

Development project
Week 2

During this week we were sectioned into smaller groups and had worked upon a course of three different activities which include mannequin paper design, in depth creative thinking, and flat drawings.

In my opinion my most enjoyable activity was the mannequin paper design. I found this one most exciting as I was able to really exaggerate and go over the top when it came to designing with the paper; however what I found the most fun was creating unusual shapes and using only that shape within our design making. Through this I was able to come up with a number of very interesting displays that in my opinion really fitted within my inner genre of architecture. I also felt extremely fascinated by the curves and structures within my piece as it seemed the the mannequin had been trapped within it's own clothing like it had been confined with little to no space.

In a way this linked in with my in depth creative thinking lecture that we had with Dan as we had to pick out three words from our minds maps that we created (which is shown below) based upon our inner themes and pick of the words that catches our attention the most. I had decided to choose Broken, Frustration, and Confined as for me they I personally for these three words the most interesting and threw this I wanted to incorporate this into my mannequin paper design as a way of portraying my theme further.

V&A and Serpentine gallery outing
week 1 day 3

On my trip to the V&A and Serpentine time gallery outing I was able to find some very fascinating pieces that I felt could really add inspiration towards my personal project. For example in regards to the V&A I was mostly brought my attentions sourly to the architectural section as this is what I was going to start my project on. Through this I was able to come a across a few peculiar sculptures that I felt could really relate to my theme. One sculpture that I particular adored was this kind of abstract box; however it looked broken up, sectioned into pieces, complemented with bright colors such as yellow and green. I found this sculpture both exciting and frustrating at the same time but still drew you in with its playful shapes and colors.

That were a few other sculptures that had also fascinated me and which I felt also would have benefited to my project through their peculiar and random shapes however I thought that this particular sculpture really brought architecture to life and showed a more pleasurable side to it while still mind bobbling its viewers.

In regards to the serpentine gallery I was able to find this particular building that really interested me. like the sculpture in the V&A this building also seemed to have it's share of a playful and exciting structure, and in a way this particular building reminded me of the leaning tower of Pisa through its wonky structure and uneven frame. The individual cubes attached together to create the building was something I also found very interesting as each insignificant cube all working to together to create a firm and stable tower really presented a vague idea of 'structural attachment' in my opinion as they were all purposely 'structured' together into this unusual shape.

I had selectively picked out a few other pictures that I had to taken on my outing. I felt that these images were very relate able to my inner theme of architecture and in a way creates a confusion which to the viewer could also be captivating and thrilling.

After my outing at the V&A and the Serpentine Gallery I observed through the particular pieces that I observed while out on my trip I thought long and hard using the inspiration of these shapes and my research book I sketched out possible and compelling ways that this could be used i a garment and how this could draw my viewer attention as it did for me on my outing. through my research and the help of the outing I was able to jot down a number of sketched related to my day and my theme. Nonetheless I also had a brief look at a few fashion designers that I felt somewhat added to my inner  theme of architecture and showed off structure and confusion. Through this I researched a Japanese designer named Issey Miyake, mostly focusing upon his origami collection as I felt that it fitting hand in hand with architecture as both present an extraordinary kind of structure.

Through this I used my research from the gallery and my research from Miyake's origami collection to explore different methods of shapes and structures as a starting point towards my project. This allowed me to go outside my comfort zone and really develop new and exciting ways of exploring 'Structural attachment'. through my sketches I focused upon trying to find a constructive way of attaching the shapes together but still allowing it to make sense to the viewer. Nevertheless this showed me new ideas that could be adding into my actual sketchbook going on the my final piece.

Overall, going back to my outing at the Q&A and the serpentine Gallery I felt that it was very helpful and enjoyable and gave me a variety of ideas that I could use towards my project. I felt that it was a great experience and allowed me to open up to different concepts of my inner theme (architecture) as a way of going forward with my project.

Start of 8 week project
Week 1 Day 1
The theme of my 8 week project is 'Structural analysis'. As the theme is a large topic to focus on we had to break it down into little sections with the use of a mind map mentally going what we personally felt that the theme meant to us, and how we can bring the theme to life in our individual work. I thought this was a very helpful way of starting us off as we were really able to look into a side of 'structural analysis' that interested making us able to already think about this could recur into our project. For me I started off with a more architectural approach to the theme as it is what most fascinated me. I felt that it the use of the buildings and their abstract kind of shapes was a great way to begin the project as it opened up to a lot of fascinating ideas; really allowing me to embrace now ways of designing and trying out these unusual shapes and methods attachment.
